This is the regular Thieving guide, the guide for ironman / hardcore ironman players can be found here.
Thieving is a skill which allows players to obtain coins and items by stealing from market stalls or by pickpocketing NPC's. It is a great skill for starting off an account, as you will earn a lot of money very quickly.

Pickpocketing is the act of stealing from anothers pocket. This results in little gold, but very high experience. The downside to Pickpocketing, is that you have a chance to get caught, which will cause the player to take damage and be stunned for a while. This puts Pickpocketing and stealing from Stalls at roughly the same experience per hour. Most NPCs can be found walking around in the Ardougne area, the others all around Runescape.
|NPC||NPC Picture||Location||Level Needed||Reward||XP|
|Man||Ardougne (South of the marketplace)||1||Random GP||600|
|Al Kharid Warrior||Al Kharid||25||Random GP||1.950|
|Knight of Ardougne||Ardougne||55||Random GP||6.375|
Note: When you reach level 99, xp will get reduced by half.
